The Pauchon Foundation is pleased to announce the partnership with Gavilan Community College and their Science Alive program.  This one day seminar on the sciences is open to middle school age children in the Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Hollister communities in California.  Each student attends three different hands on seminars, followed by lunch and an afternoon guest speaker geared for their age group.  The Foundation is proud to be able to participate in this science  learning experience and also to have given a $500 sponsorship donation to help fund the event.

December 2008(La Jolla, CA)

Awarding our first research grant to the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla was an exciting and rewarding day for Executive Director, Marilyn Librers.  After evaluating several applications for grants the Board of Directors identified research being done by William H. Gerwich of the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine at Scripps and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy.  This project has identified a potent new anti-cancer drug isolated from toxic blue-green algae found in the South Pacific. Pauchon Foundation has affectionately named the project “mermaid’s hair” and is delighted to be part of this cutting edge technology. A  financial grant in the amount of $5000 has been awarded so they may continue further research.
